Sam Raimi Will Direct ‘Wizard Of Oz’ Prequel For Disney

October 7, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): After months of speculation it has been confirmed that Sam raimi is going to direct Wizard of Oz Prequel. Since Sam Mendes declined the offer a couple of months back, directors have been trying to bag this lucrative film. The new film will be called Oz: The Great and Powerful. The upcoming movie is going to be a sequel of the cult classic Wizard of Oz.

The new film will deal with the story of the Wizard and his life before he came to the magical land of Oz. the film tracks the wizard from the days when he was a circus wrangler, but a tornado brought him to the magical land of Oz.

Ina recent interview Sam Raimi confessed that he agreed to the project only when he heard that Robert Downey Jr. is going to play the role of the wizard. The producers of the movie are still negotiating the terms of contract with the popular actor.

Raimi’s previous works include the Spiderman franchisee, which simply wowed the audience. Sam Raimi did a commendable job with the Evil Dead movie franchisee. The gore and blood depicted in the horror-flick made him extremely popular with the movie-lovers. The new Wizard of Oz will be produced by Disney which recently made a lot of money with Alice in Wonderland. If this movie becomes popular it could turn into another popular franchisee for Sam Raimi. Right now Raimi’s flick World of Warcraft is all set to make records at the Box office all over the world.
