California, Mar 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) With expectations of a large number of Chinook salmon tracing back their way to the waters of California, the Chinook salmon fishery shall have fishermen coming back. However, the fishery which has been under the shutters all throughout two consecutive fishing seasons will have a list of restrictions to abide by, which is in terms with the federal law.
David Ortmann; the Chairman to the Pacific Fishery Management Council declared that all West Coast fishermen will now be able to throw their nets into the waters of Salmon fishery. The fishery was closed down following the decline in the number of Chinook salmon in a short span of three years. However, this very decision has been a devastating nightmare for all west coast fisher men. This is true owing to the fact that the Washington and Oregon fishermen indulge in fish catching in between May and September. Regrettably, there shall be quotas on the number of fish they catch in that very season.
The federal biologists had concluded saying that the Chinook salmon is likely to make a comeback in the rivers of Sacramento. Their chief concern was to protect this unique species from becoming extinct. As per the last year survey goes, 122,000 Chinook were assumed to come back to the Sacramento river. However, in actuality 39,500 of them did make a return. This very downfall rate of Chinook salmon was one of the chief reasons in bringing down the shutters of Chinook salmon fishery. If everything goes well then the California coastline shall be open to all commercial and recreational fishermen flock in between April and November.

Only tribal fishermen may use nets; non-tribal fishermen may only use hook-and-line (troll) gear to catch salmon.
