sachaSep 19, (THAINDIAN NEWS) ‘Borat’ star Sacha Baron Cohen is all set to play Freddie Mercury in the upcoming film that will trace the life of the legendary Queen frontman. Reports suggest that Peter Morgan will be writing the script for the film and he is presently researching on the life of Freddie Mercury. The film will focus on the band’s building stages and the run up to their performance in 1985 at the Live Aid Concert. The performance is considered one of the greatest rock concerts of all times.

The film will be produced by GK Films in collaboration with Robert De Niro’s production company Tribeca. GK Films confirmed in a statement that the plans for the biopic on Queen is underway and Sacha Baron Cohen has been signed for the role of the frontman. Guitarist of the legendary rock band, Brian May too has approved of the choice in a recent statement to the media. The rights for some of the hit songs of the band like ‘Another One Bites The Dust’, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and ‘We Will Rock You’ have already been purchased. Though it is well known that Sacha Baron Cohen can sing, it is unclear whether his vocals will be used in the film or not.

Freddie Mercury was one of the most influential figures in rock music in the 80s. Some of Queen’s songs like ‘Radio Gaga’, ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and ‘I Want To Break Free’ have redefined rock music in the years to come. He died due to complications due to AIDS in 1991. He had revealed his disease just 24 hours before his death. Reports suggest that the film will not focus much on the time of death of the star.
