Ryan Murphy Considered For ‘Rocky Horror’ Remake

rocky_horror October 20, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Deadline.com reported that Ryan Murphy noted for the hit series ‘Glee’ has been approached to remake the 1975 cult film ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ according to the reports on Monday. Murphy has apparently remained noncommittal about the offer from Fox 2000 pictures. ‘Glee’; had also recently done an episode based on ‘Rocky Horror’. The episode is set to be aired on 26th October.

The original ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ had become extremely popular inspiring millions and gaining a cult like status. The regular midnight screenings soon turned into rituals with the fans participating in them. The screenings earned more than a $100 million. ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ was a twisted take off on the Frankenstein story starring Tim Curry, Susan Sarandon along with rocker Meat Loaf.

Lou Adler, the producer of the original flick is expected to produce the remake as well. The idea of remaking the complete film has created a buzz with most of the die hard fans being against it. Message boards all across the World Wide Web is filling up fast with comments’ to leave the old cult film alone. Fox Pictures is trying to test the waters right now with Fox Movies all set for a 24 hours airing of the movie on Halloween. The film had also been recently released on Blu-Ray.

Murphy, in the meantime, is considering directing the celluloid version of “The Normal Heart,” a play by Larry Kramer. The storyline depicts the early days of AIDs when it became almost an epidemic. Murphy is also reported to have signed a deal to write and direct another romantic comedy which will bring him in touch with the Julia Roberts again, his costar in ‘Eat, Pray Love’
