Rutgers University defends Snooki’s $32,000 visit
April 5th, 2011 - 12:29 am ICT by Aishwarya BhattNew York, April 4 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Rutgers University has defended their decision to spend $32,000 on Snooki’s visit. Students protested that such an amount could have been used for another ‘important’ project than to host a television reality personality.
The university disagrees with that assertion. When Snooki went to the school, about 1,000 people went to listen to her. A spokesman for the school, Steve Manas, told reporters that the money was well spent.
He said that, “We have more than 200 events on our campus during the course of the year, everything from scholarly presentations to entertainment. The students canvassed for who they wanted here and had the funds available.”
Manas further revealed that the event was sponsored not by the school but by the Rutgers University Programing Association.
Some of students still insist that their tuition fees could have been used for a better cause. One of the students Hina Rehman, described the school’s decision as “ridiculous”. The students maintain that regardless of where the money is coming from, it could have still been used for a much better thing.
Some of the students were particularly annoyed that the amount that was spent on Snooki would be higher than what will be used on the visit of Nobel and Pulitzer Prize winning author Toni Morrison.
Morrison would be speaking at the school’s graduation on the 15th of May.
