Robin Hood at cannes Cannes, May 12 (THAINDIAN NEWS) The Cannes Film Festival opened with Russell Crowe’s ‘Robin Hood’. Cannes is believed to be the world’s most prestigious showcase for meaningful cinema, but this time around the films lined up for viewing, leave a lot to be desired. There was a huge lineup of fans and the media person near the red carpet, in anticipation of ‘Robin Hood’s’ lead stars – Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett. Everyone wanted a glimpse of the Hollywood stars. The movie is also set to open in some regions of Europe and the United States this week. It remains to be seen how the Ridley Scott’s adaptation is going to fight the reigning king of the box-office – ‘Iron Man 2’.

According to ABC News, Russell Crowe said that, “There’s no sort of cynicism with this, we don’t have two other scripts under Ridley’s hospital bed. Obviously there’s a figure in the studio heads’ mind, if we pass a certain figure then they’ll give us a call and say, ‘well, tell the second part of the story’, but there’s no grand plan in that regard.”

Most of the films are hoping to win the top honors at the Cannes and that is the Palme d’Or. There are 19 movies that are in the fray for the Palme d’Or, and they include films by “Amores Perros” director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, Cannes best film laureates Ken Loach and Abbas Kiarostami, and the Japanese director Takeshi Kitano.
