Melbourne, Dec 2 (ANI): Russell Crowe’s ‘Robin Hood’ film is being touted as the ultimate tale of the philanthropic folklore hero, and the actor fully agrees with it.
The ‘Gladiator’ star has said that his 155-million-dollar film does justice to what Robin Hood was all about.
“I don’t think there is a satisfying Robin Hood and that’s one of the key reasons for wanting to make another one,” News.com.au quoted Crowe as telling the Herald Sun.
Universal Pictures is hoping that the film, which is in post-production, will be the definitive take on the legend - and raise the bar on the popular Errol Flynn and Kevin Costner films.
The project is the fifth collaboration between the antipodean star and veteran director Ridley Scott.
This new “historical” epic was filmed at the same location as ‘Gladiator’ and Crowe has revealed that just before production began, Scott instructed him to crop his hair close and grow a beard.
“I said: ‘Well, that’s Maximus’,” said Crowe, referring to his best-actor Oscar winning role in ‘Gladiator’.
“He said: ‘Look, I think if we’re going to steal from anybody, we’re OK to steal from ourselves!’” he added.
The action-packed film features battle scenes with thousands of extras and horses. It includes a full-scale seaborne invasion of England.
The film, with a working title ‘Robin Hood’, is due for release on May 13. (ANI)
