Hollywood actor Russell Crowe has called upon Gossip columnist Annette Sharp to battle it out like a Gladiator; win or die! According to latest emerging reports, it is indicated that the “A Beautiful Mind” star was provoked by the Australian columnist after she had made a jibe at a picture of the star smoking and eating while on a bike ride.

The issue had been highlighted in the Sydney’s Daily Telegraph. The photograph of Russell, binging on bike, was accompanied by the caption “smokes and fatty foods the fitness regime for Rusty.” The resulting after effect of the mockery escalated eventually and completely blew out of proportion, with the resulting effect that Crowe took it upon him to challenge the Gossip Girl to a “bike duel.”

Crowe’s reppresentative had reportedly called up the paper, challenging Sharp to a 12 mile (19.3 km) race that is said to make its way through the city. The paper has reported that the rep. had stated that, “Get on your bike. Russell wants you to go riding with him. Are you ready to die?”

Sharp had accepted the challenge. An early video capture of the event showed Crowe racing along, looking unfazed, while Ms. Sharp looked visibly struggling. At one point of time when she had fallen off her bike, Crowe had even been gracious enough to stop by her side to check upon her. At the end of the race, she was found commenting, “When you make a living throwing stones you expect that one day someone is going to lob one back. This was that day.”
