Russell Brand to walk away with $20 million after his divorce with Katy Perry

Reports say the two failed to sign a prenuptial agreement meaning the court will decide how they spend the family fortune.
The couple got married under California laws and that means the state law will be applied on how the two shares the fortune they amassed when they were married. Forbes reports that Perry has a personal fortune of just over $40 million. California laws entitle Brand to 50 percent of that fortune.
Just before their 2009 wedding in India, Brand spoke about why he believes prenuptial agreement was not necessary for the two. He told reporters that, “I’m trying to preserve and make it a beautiful thing. Really, love between two people is the most spectacular and ordinary thing in the world. I want to make our wedding just about me and her… I ain’t doing no prenup.”
After months of denying that their relationship is going through struggles, Brand last Friday said that the couple has split. In a statement released from the camp of the actor, Brand emphatically stated that, “Katy and I are ending our marriage.”
The two have not stated why they decided to pull the plug on their marriage.
