October 26, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): British comedian Russell Brand and US singer Katy Perry tied the knot in a traditional Hindu ceremony held at the Aman-i-Khas resort in Rajasthan this weekend. The couple, who have been in India for the past few weeks, were declared man and wife in the presence of 85 guests, comprising close friends and family. The October 23rd wedding near the Ranthambhore tiger sanctuary was a grand affair, where both groom and bride followed traditional Hindu customs, including the garments and jewelery worn at the ceremony.

Media reports claim that Katy Perry adorned a blue sari at the beginning of the nuptials, thereafter changing a number of saris as the ceremony progressed. She was also photographed wearing traditional henna on her hands, just like any other Rajasthani bride. Russell Brand, on the other hand, chose a nude color kurta for the main ceremony, changing into an embroidered coat once the nuptial was complete. The wedding canopy below which the bride and groom were seated on gold thrones was also decorated with marigold flowers and red and yellow ribbons, following the Hindu custom.

It has also been reported that Rajasthani singers and musicians were invited to the occasion. They sang in the accompaniment of music from the sitar, santoor, tabla and nagaras. The couple were pronounced man and wife by a Christian minister who flew down to India from the US.
