Ronnie James Dio Los Angeles, Jun 1 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A memorial was held for the music legend Ronnie James Dio on Sunday. Thousands of his fans attended it and paid tribute to him. At the funeral service, the main performers included Deep Purple’s Glenn Hughes and Queensryche’s Geoff Tate.

The memorial service was held at the Forest Law Memorial Park’s Hall of Liberty. Only 1200 fans could be accommodated inside the hall, but that didn’t deter the other fans, and they simply queued up outside the hall. Fortunately for them monitors relayed the happenings from inside the hall. David Feinstein who was the cousin of Ronnie Dio and also his band mate in Elf, said that, “I know that Ronnie truly loved all of you. I’m talking about all you out there, all the fans … He touched all of us with his music and his message and his magic.”

The other notable performers of the evening included Asia’s John Payne, Anthrax’s Joey Belladonna and Quiet Riot’s Paul Shortino. The frontman for Heaven and Hell started the proceedings of the memorial service with a piano rendration of Ronnie Dio’s ‘This is Your Life’.

Ronnie Dio’s son Dan Padavona pleaded with the audience to take better medical care of themselves. He added that his father ignored the symptoms of cancer for years, until it just became too late and he passed away.
