romanOct 1, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Looks like tragic occurrences and acclaimed director Roman Polanski are never far from each other. Decades after (31 years to be precise), the past has come back to haunt the famed director of such screen ventures as “The Pianist,” who was shockingly arrested at the Zurich airport on September 26, 2009, by the Swiss authorities.

The arrest was made by the Swiss authorities, who were acting on the request of the U.S. authorities. The decades long outstanding warrant had been issued against the film-maker way back in the year 1978, after he had been indicted of the charges of engaging in unlawful sex with a minor named Samantha Geimer, who was Gailey then.

In the 1978 charges, it had been stated that Polanski had forcefully involved a minor (the 13 year old Geimer) in unlawful sex. Now, years, decades later, it seems that the gruesome past has caught up cruelly with the aging film-maker. An international arrest warrant had been pending against him since 2005 and the prolific film-maker too, mostly chose to avoid countries where there were chances of him being placed under arrest.

After he had fled from U.S., he had made France his home and led a secured life there. However, all that fell to bits and pieces this month, when he stepped on the Swiss soil to collect a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Zurich Film Festival.

The incident has sent shock waves all through the industry and has brought back the decades old incident to light once more, causing even more discomfort to the victim, now a 45 year mother of four. Samantha Geimer had stated it quite sometimes that she has forgiven Polanski long ago, and wishes to simply let go of the past.
