Roman Polanski bail Zurich, Nov 25 (THAINDIAN NEWS) At last, noted director and filmmaker Roman Polanski has been granted bail from the Swiss Jail where he is lodged in connection with the rape case that he did decades ago in the US. The bail for him has reportedly been set at 3m Euros (£2.7m; $4.5m) for the film director.

Roman Polanski has been wanted by the US since 1978, as he committed a sex offense with an under-age girl, and then when the situation got too hot for him to handle, he fled from the country and didn’t go back.

Then some months ago he was going to Zurich from France to collect an award at the city’s film festival in September. And he was arrested at the airport. Since then he has been unsuccessfully trying to get bail or to be freed, but it has been rejected till now.

However he is not a free bird, as even on bail he would be on house arrest and with electronic monitoring at his Swiss chalet.

After fleeing to Europe following his U.S. conviction, Polanski continued to direct movies, including Frantic (1988), Death and the Maiden (1994), The Ninth Gate (1999), the Academy Award-winning (for best director) and Cannes Film Festival Palme d’Or-winning The Pianist (2002), and Oliver Twist (2005). He has also acted in theatre and in other films too.
