Rock music fan Robert McIndoe takes his own life because of his tinnitus
November 18th, 2011 - 8:41 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLondon, Nov 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) A 52-year-old man who was left with permanent ringing in his ears after attending a rock concert took his own life, his wife has revealed. An inquest was told Robert McIndoe apparently stabbed himself to death when he struggled to find a solution to his debilitating tinnitus.
Several hospitals failed to help him and his last attempt was at an ear, nose and throat specialist. When all those failed, Robert decided to end it all and turned the knife blade on himself. During an inquest into the death of the father-of-two, his wife said that Robert returned from a concert of the band Them Crooked Vultures in the summer of 2010.
She explained that when Robert got in, he was distraught because he had not taken ear plug to the event and the loud noise had affected him.
Shirley McIndoe told the inquest that, “When it first happened he wasn’t too bothered about it because he thought it would subside, and the friend he had been with also had ringing in his ears that day. But it was a constant irritation. He didn’t get a night of sleep after that.”
When hospitals turned him away because they did not have specialists on the field, he decided to end it. His first suicide failed when he took overdose of sleeping pills. The wife said he eventually killed himself with the knife on the 3rd of October 2010.
The Southwark Coroner’s Court is conducting the investigation into the death of Robert.
