Los Angeles, April 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Robin Williams in an interview with “The View” said it pays to be famous. He said he was once stopped by two cops while driving his bicycle on the sidewalk in New York but was allowed to go.

According to Williams, the police asked him to produce his ID which he did. However when the police confirmed his identity, instead of passing him a $100 ticket, they just warned him and allowed him off the hook. The officers reminded him that he was not supposed to bike on the sidewalk.

Williams is basically against the law that prohibits bikers from riding on the sidewalk. If a biker hits a pedestrian with a bicycle on the sidewalk, the bicycle could be impounded and a fine of $300 imposed. The show’s co-host, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, revealed that she has been a victim of sidewalk bicycle accident before.

Williams showed no sympathy for her saying the laws in New York were made because of people like Hasselbeck. Williams is a bicycle fanatic. The “Mork from Ork” star has about 60 bicycles.

He acknowledged that the cops were soft to let him go without a ticket.
