August 30, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): Robert Schimmel, the comic of HBO as well as a regular on Howard Stern’s radio show, has been involved in a car accident reported TMZ. Schimmel’s condition is said to be quite serious.

His 19 year old daughter had been driving the car along Arizona highway during the time of the accident. She had swerved sharply in order to avoid colliding with another car causing her own vehicle to roll over and land on the side of the road.

While the driver has been hospitalized and is reported to be in a stable condition, her father is the one whose condition continues to be grave. The entire family is by his bedside. Schimmel’s son who is 11 years old had also been in the car during the accident. He had been released on Thursday after the doctors found no injuries.

Schimmel has gone through two marriages. He had four children with his first wife Vicki. His son Derek, however succumbed to cancer at the age of 11.

His second wife Mellissa also gave him two sons. He divorced her in 2009, a few months after being arrested for domestic disturbances in Calabasas, CA.

Robert Schimmel had also suffered from a heart attack in 1998 and was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma in the year 2000. He overcame cancer with the help of chemotherapy. He also disclosed that he was suffering from cirrhosis of liver and had been infected by Hepatitis C virus after receiving blood during his days at the Air Force.
