Robert Downey Jr. to be a part of Sam Mendes’ ‘Wizard of Oz’

Robert Downey Jr. Los Angeles, Apr 23 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Robert Downey Jr. is going to be a part of Sam Mendes’ Wizard of Oz project. The new movie is going to be titled as Oz The Great and Powerful. It would be a prequel to the Judy Garland’s movie and it would showcase the life and times of a young circus magician. The magician ultimately becomes the ruler of the magical kingdom, after he lands in the magical kingdom in a hot-air balloon.

The original Wizard of Oz movie was made in 1939, and Judy Garland was one of the central characters of the movie. Later Disney remade the movie in 1985. There have been many adaptations of the movie, and the latest one by Kate Winslet’s ex-husband Sam Mendes also promises to be interesting.

Sam Mendes was involved in the latest James Bond movie, but due to debt-problems of MGM, the movie has been put on hold indefinitely. So Sam is concentrating on the Wizard of Oz project.

It may be recalled that Warner Bros is also planning to make a remake of the legendary The Wizard of Oz. The Warner Bros is planning to make a ‘darker’ remake of the legendary movie of 1939 – Alice in Wonderland. They have even tweaked the story line, and the plot would focus on Dorothy’s granddaughter who would return to Oz, to battle with evil.
