Robert de Niro to star as Bernie Madoff in a new movie
November 8th, 2011 - 10:49 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattLos Angeles, Nov 8 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Hollywood legend Robert de Niro will play the role of Bernie Madoff in a new HBO movie. The studio confirmed on Monday that they are making a movie centered on the man who pulled off the worst Ponzi Scheme in the history of the United States.
The movie will be partly based on the book “The Wizard of Lies: Bernie Madoff and the Death of Trust.” The book details how Madoff took advantage of the respect he got from Wall Street to swindle several people out of billions of dollars. The preparation for the movie has already started.
Part of the story for the movie will also be based on the book “Truth and Consequences: Life Inside the Madoff Family,” which was written by Laurie Sandell and given an input by Madoff’s son Andrew Madoff.
The movie will be made for television and the screenplay will be written by John Burnham Schwartz.
Madoff is one of the most hated people alive currently. Some estimates say Madoff stole about $50 billion from his victims. That figure though has been disputed by investigators.
He is currently serving 150 years behind bars for what he did. He has since apologized to his victims and family.
