river-deep-mountain-highOct 13, (THAINDIAN NEWS) “Glee” Season 2 Episode 4, aired yesterday was one of its kind. The fourth episode, named “Duets”, was written by Ian Brennan and directed by Eric Stoltz. It would not visibly seem as exciting as the last episode of “Glee” i.e. “Grilled Cheesus”, which was a real treat for all those audiences who are inclined towards old classics, oriented around soulful music dedicated to Lord Jesus. However, the fourth episode “Duet”, was a real surprise for every Ike & Tina Turner fans.

The hit song of Ike & Tina Turner, “River Deep Mountain High” was featured in the show yesterday. The cover version of this song was performed by Santana and Mercedes, Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat. This 1966 classic was a big hit in the United Kingdom and stuck to number 3 position in the United Kingdom Bill Boards for several weeks, although, it was not that much accepted by the Americans back then. “River Deep Mountain High” became Tina Turner’s signature song since then. This song was originally written by Phil Spector, Jeff Barry, and Ellie Greenwich; Produced by Phil Spector; Arranged by Jack Nitzsche; its instrumentation was done by Leon Russell (Keyboard), Jim Horn (Saxophone), Barney Kessel (guitar) and Earl Palmer (drums) and Carol Kaye (bass).

The song was featured in the show when a duet music competition was announced by the “Glee” Club and Santana thought that her best chance of winning the competition would be, if she gets paired with Mercedes (Amber Riley), and they sing “River Deep Mountain High” together. Other songs that were featured on “Duet” were “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”, “Le Jazz Hot!”, “Sing!”, “With You I’m Born Again”, “Lucky”, “Happy Days Are Here Again” and “Get Happy”.
