September 18th, 2010 - 7:11 pm ICT by Sampurn WireSeptember 18, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Rituporno Ghosh the celebrated Bengali director has won truckloads of awards for his genre-redefining films. Strangely enough, you will not find a single award displayed in his home. When asked about it, the director revealed that his father used to collect the awards but since his death; awards have lost their meaning to the director.
Commenting on the subject of awards, the legendary director says that he does not think of awards while making films. Rituporno also clarifies that his job satisfaction does not depend on the awards, he thinks the audience as the best jury. During the interview, Rituporno shared a certain trivia with us, he said that the original star cast of “Abohoman’ included Amitabh Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Farhan Akhtar and Vidya Balan but later he chose a different approach for the movie.
Speaking about his movie, Rituporno says that he wanted to explore the mentor-muse relationship that has been often portrayed in Indian Cinema. The director considered different actresses like Anusree Das, Sudipta Chattopadhyay before casting Ananya. However Ananya bagged the role because she has learnt dance from a long time under Mamata Shankar. Mamata Shankar also stars with Ananya in “Abohoman’.
The movie has swept the National Awards and Rituporno is pretty excited about its prospects. Let us hope Rituporno keeps churning out such thought-provoking movie in the future as well.
