Ritesh Deshmukh: No More Sex Comedies

March 2 2010 (Sampurn Wire): The affable Ritesh Deshmukh will not do sex comedies anymore. The guy whose name got willy-nilly linked with racy rom coms like “Masti’ and “Kyaa Kool Hai Hum’ has sworn to steer clear of sex on screen. Declares Ritesh, “I won’t do any more sex comedies. It started with “Masti’. Now, five years down the line, the “Masti’ writer, Milap Zaveri, who is a dear friend, has turned director with “Jaane Kahan Se Aayee Hai’ and there is absolutely no sex or double-meaning dialogues in it.”
Ritesh Deskhmukh and writer-director, Milap Zaveri, have set a common date. April 9 has been underlined in the calendar. It is the date on which “Jaane Kahan Se Aaayi Hai’ is going to be released. Five years ago, on the same date-April 9-”Masti’had been released. Zaveri wanted his film as director to be released on that date. Says Ritesh, “Both Milap and I go back a long way. We have come a long way. We have left our raunchy days behind. “Jaane Kahan Se Aayee Hai’ is my first romantic film since my debut film “Tujhe Meri Kasam’ in 2003. Milap is the most romantic person I know. So it is only fair that he makes a romantic film with me.”
Ritesh and Milap are long-time collaborators. Proclaims Ritesh fondly, “I think Milap’s sense of humour suits me. We may have gone over the top in “Masti’. But now, we have settled down to a mellow expression in “Jaane Kahan Se Aayee Hai’.”
Ritesh is being an extra choosy about his roles now. He has to make sure that nothing corny or controversial comes his way. “After Sajid Khan’s “Housefull’, I haven’t signed anything except “Dhamaal 2′, which is not a sex comedy. How can it be? It features no female actors. That apart, I am planning something again with Ram Gopal Varma. Ramuji knows how to use me well on screen. Each time we have done something different. This time would be no different too.”
Ritesh Deshmukh and Akshay Kumar play a couple of losers in their new comedy together. Utters Ritesh, “Akshay and I work in a casino in “Housefull’. Any table that Akshay touches ends up having losers on it.” For the first time, Ritesh, along with the rest of the cast, has taken off his clothes in “Housefull’. Sajid Khan said, ”Enough of female skin. I want to show male skin now.” Ritesh told him to hold the song until the end of the schedule, so that he could build his body for the sequence on the beach. This is what the generally shy Ritesh Deshmukh expresses about his new six-pack look.
Finally the mandatory question on his ‘dosti’ with Genelia D’Souza. “Can’t I give you my mandatory answer? Then I will say we have been friends from the time we did “Tujhe Meri Kasam’ together. And so it shall remain. The profile of our friendship is not going to change.”
