July 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Actor Rip Torn has asked the judge to send him into rehab instead of jail after he broke into a bank in Connecticut while he was armed and heavily intoxicated. The actor broke into a bank in late January and sparked off the alarm. As the cops reached the bank after responding to the alarm they found Rip Torn with a gun and heavily intoxicated. His lawyer revealed recently that the actor has followed the instructions given by the court very well and all reports are successful in treatment and abstinence.
After Rip Torn’s lawyers applied for the probation of the actor on Tuesday, the prosecutors immediately appealed against it. The lawyers requested to the judiciary that all charges be dropped against the actor who followed the extensively the rehabilitation treatment that he was subjected to, considering he was a non-violent first-time offender. Prosecutors, however, agreed to drop the charge of burglary against the actor but said that they would oppose the probation plans. The case will be reviewed by the court again on August 11.
Rip Torn has earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges of trespassing by saying that he mistook the bank as his house in drunken state. The videotape that captured the incident and the arrest has not been revealed to the public by the police. The police, however, revealed that the actor failed the three sobriety tests and also claimed to be a police officer himself. His speech was also laden with profanities and he went on to say that if he goes to jail then the cop arresting him would meet with the same fate.
