‘Rio’ tops Easter weekend box-office earnings

Los Angeles, Apr 25 (ANI): Fox’s animated adventure ‘Rio’ is leading the box office for the second weekend in a row, earning 26.8 million dollars, according to studio estimates.

Animated bunny comedy ‘Hop’ crossed the 100 million dollars mark domestically. It did right by Hollywood, too, which saw ticket sales perk up-way up-over last year, reports E! Online.

Also doing well over the Easter weekend were a slew of newcomers, including Tyler Perry’s ‘Madea’s Big Happy Family,’ which took second place with earnings of 25.8 million dollars.

The drama “Water for Elephants,” with Reese Witherspoon and Robert Pattinson, came in third with 17.5 million dollars.
