Reliance ADAG’s Hollywood projects at script-scouting stageJune 12th, 2008 - 9:39 am ICT by IANS
Mumbai, June 11 (IANS) Reliance BIG Entertainment (RBE), a Reliance ADAG company that a month ago announced deals with eight Hollywood production houses, says it is in no hurry to finalise movie projects. “A month is too early to finalise a film project,” said Sharad Goel, head of RBE Corporate Communications. “Hollywood production houses are scouting for the right scripts at present. Sometimes, one finds a script in a jiffy and at other times, it takes months to get hold of one. So, no definite time-frame can be given about when the movies will go into production.”
Under the agreements, Hollywood-based production houses will put together 30 scripts out of which RBE will shortlist 10 for movie projects.
“The process is time-consuming and we are not in a hurry,” Goel said.
While announcing the “spectacular” deals during the Cannes Film Festival last month, RBE president Rajesh Sawhney said the company would invest $1 billion (about Rs.42 billion) in eight to 10 Hollywood films over the next two years.
Besides, RBE would also produce a total of 69 films in English and Indian languages during the same period and launch six television channels in India before the year-end.
RBE envisions a major growth in the Indian entertainment sector in the next five years. It made its Hollywood foray as major studios there have reached a growth plateau, and movies made with independent production houses would find a fertile market everywhere.
Its new venture also implies an Indian company would be taking on Hollywood majors and their assembly-line productions.
