R&B singer R. Kelly undergoes emergency throat surgery

Chicago, July 20 (THAINDIAN NEWS) R&B singer R. Kelly underwent emergency throat surgery on Tuesday. The news was confirmed by a representative of the singer. He was operated at the Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Apparently there was an abcess on one of the singer’s tonsils that needed to be drained off, to prevent further complications.

Allan Mayer, who is Kelly’s publicist also divulged that Kelly would be “laid up indefinitely” at the hospital. The issue came to light when the singer experienced throat pain and after undergoing a throat exam, the doctors advised him to get hospitalized and undergo the surgery.

R. Kelly real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly and he was born on the 8th of January 1967 in Chicago. His single mother Joanna was a singer and hence it is no secret that he takes after her. Music was all around the little Kelly and he started singing in church at the age of eight.

Later in school, his talent was recognized by his music teacher Lena McLin. He also started his own band with his friend Marc McWilliams. However he finally came into the limelight during a reality show Big Break where he eventually became a celebrity and also walked away with the top prize of $100,000.
