Rapper Buju Banton Arrested For Possession Of Cocaine

Dec. 14, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Buju Banton is in the midst of controversy yet again. The rapper has been arrested on Thursday on the charges of illegal possession of drugs with the intention to distribute. He is currently in the custody of the federal police of the United States in Miami. It has been decided by the authorities that he is going to be transferred to Tampa pretty soon.
Buju Banton, which is the stage name of Mark Anthony Myrie, was discovered with more than 5 kilograms of cocaine on him. It is being predicted that the rapper might be awarded a sentence of up to 20 years of imprisonment. The details of the case have not been released by the authorities as of now. The available information was provided by David Melenkevitz, the spokesperson for the Drug Enforcement Administration of Florida. An email had been sent to the rapper’s own record label, but no comments have been forthcoming from that side.
This is not the first time that Buju Banton have had a run in with the law. A few years back, he had been arrested on the charges of beating up six men at Kingston, one of them because he was a gay. The case was dismissed for lack of evidence. At another time, he had been fined 9,000 dollars as officials had discovered him growing marijuana plants outside his home. He has recently been nominated for the Grammy award, a decision that have created controversy, as the song he has been nominated for is allegedly rife with anti-gay sentiments. It is yet to be seen if the recent arrest has any effect on his nomination.
