Oct 24, (THAINDIAN NEWS) The much awaited controversial film of Indian filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma named ‘Rakht Charitra’ has hit the theaters and it has managed to hog the headlines as expected. The film has Vivek Oberoi in a pivotal role and also has a number of noted actors in it. The film has got a good opening in India but has got embroiled in a controversy over the role played by Shatrughan Sinha. The film is based on real life incidents and feuds in political parties in Andhra Pradesh that led to the assassination of political leader Paritala Ravindra around five years back. The role played by veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha is based on former CM N.T. Rama Rao and the TDP supporters are crying foul over the way his role has been depicted in the film.
The TDP workers are against at least three scenes in the movie that according to them, shows the former CM in a negative light. The widespread protests in the state made the director change his mind and he finally decided to do away with some of the scenes. The film, however, is doing reasonably well, the protest and controversy notwithstanding. The protesting TDP supporters got down to streets and held demonstrations. In Vishakhapatnam, a screening of the film had to be stopped. In several other places in Andhra Pradesh protests were held against the film.
The cops had to take 10 TDP supporters into custody. In Anantapur district, heavy security arrangements were put into place before the release of the film to avoid any untoward incidents. The film has drawn the notice of the critics for its overload of gore and violence. It is definitely not recommended for the weak-hearted ones.
