August 3, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Rahul Bose of Mr and Mrs Ayer fame is portraying the character of a gay in Onir’s upcoming cinematic venture I Am. Rahul, a special name to mention in the genre of parallel cinema like Kaalpurush and The Japanese Wife, says that the experience of playing such a role is complex as well as interesting.
“There is nothing effeminate about my character”, said Rahul to reporters. He added that to essay the role on screen, he had to understand how it feels being singled out as a gay in society and how it feels being in love with another man. In words of Bose, an Aparna Sen’s favorite, it was complex on the one hand and interesting on the other.
Throwing light on the movie, the versatile actor said that I Am is a collection of four short films, based on real life stories having the theme of fear as a common thread. The movie would see the light of the day in October. Rahul’s career portfolio boasts of both commercial and parallel films. He expressed a strong dislike to be put in the slot of a comic or serious actor.
Rahul further added that he wishes making a mark in all kinds of movie, be it horror or drama or action. The characters he portrayed in Kaalpurush and Antaheen broke his image as a comic hero in Jhankaar Beats and Pyaar Ke Side Effects. The actor is ready with two films Kuch Love Jaisa and Fired, a horror movie, on the cards for this year.
