London, Dec 6 (THAINDIAN NEWS) It is absolutely important to get your pronunciation right especially when you are live on air.

BBC Radio 4 presenter, James Naughtie learnt that lesson the hard way. In his case, he had the unfortunate task of pronouncing the name of the Culture Secretary.

On Monday, Naughtie pronounced the name of Jeremy Hunt as “Cunt” and instantly, there was a whole new meaning to the word. He then tend to cover himself up by saying the spoof was, “verbal tangle courtesy of Dr Spooner”.

Naughtie later apologized for the mishap and told his listeners that he didn’t mean to upset them. Hunt did not however feel so much offended by the slip-up. He tweeted after the interview that, “They say prepare for anything before going on Today but that took the biscuit. I was laughing as much as u Jim.”

Naughtie revealed after the show that the emails that he received indicated that the listeners were divided over the slip up. He said while some found it funny, others found the remarks very offensive. He was apologetic afterwards and said he believed the word was not what most listeners wanted to hear in the morning.
