Oct 18 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Poppy Montgomery from the new television series ‘Unforgettable’ was a star on today’s ‘Rachael Ray Show’. You may also remember the actress as Samantha Spade from ‘Without a Trace’. Poppy has a three year old son named Jackson, “Action Jackson,” who watches movies when Mommy naps. Jackson loves ‘Spiderman’, and tries climbing all over everything.

Poppy’s new show is about a woman who has a real condition which causes her to remember everything. Mary Lou Henner actually has this disorder, which is so intense that if you asked her what happened on a certain day in a previous year, she can tell you details. Those details are so deep that she can tell you what day of the week it was, how the weather was, what was on television, etc. Poppy’s character is a cop who has this condition, and she uses it to help her solve crimes. Her show is on ‘CBS’ on Tuesday nights at 10pm.

Poppy shared her real name with Rachael, “Poppy Petal Emma Elizabeth Deveraux Donahue”. Rachael exclaimed, “Kindergarten must have been horrible for you!” Poppy answered that Kindergarten, school, everything was awful, and “Poppy Petal? I mean come on!” Montgomery is her mother’s maiden name, which she chose to use as her stage name.

Linda Evans also stopped by the set of Rachael to share her “Best Ever Apple Pie Recipe.” Evans is best known for her role in the hit night time soap, ‘Dynasty’. She has a new cookbook entitled ‘Recipes for Life’, and tells Rachael excitedly, “The first recipe I ever received in my life was from John Wayne!” Yes, she added his “Green Chile Cheese Casserole” to her book. Her apple pir recipe is as follows:

For Crust
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar
4 ounces (1 stick) unsalted butter, chilled and cut into pieces
4 ounces (1/2 cup) butter-flavored shortening, chilled
5 to 6 tablespoons ice water

For Filling
2 2/3 cups apple cider
2 1/2 pounds (7 to 8) Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced
3/4 pound (2 to 3) Golden Delicious apples, peeled, cored and sliced
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground mace
1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
3 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
For the crust:
Combine the flour, salt and sugar in a food processor. Add the butter and shortening, and pulse until mixture forms coarse crumbs. Add 2 tablespoons of ice water to the flour mixture. With the machine running, add additional water, a tablespoon at a time, until clumps form. Mold the dough into two balls, shape into disks and wrap in plastic wrap. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
For the filling:
Bring the apple cider to a boil in a saucepan over medium-high heat about 20 minutes, until reduced to about 2/3 cup. In a large bowl, combine the apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, and mace. Add reduced cider and lemon juice. Toss well.
