nicole August 2, 2010 (Pen Men at Work): The drug conspiracy trial in the case of the late American model Anna Nicole Smith has started today as the jury began questioning her doctors and lawyer-boyfriend. They were questioned about their own medical histories and also about their opinion on the charges.

Robert Perry, the Judge of Supreme court said that he hopes to have a panel of juries seated in two days. He also barred some of the prosecution’s evidence. He said that all the evidence involving the defendants to Smith’s death cannot be allowed since they are not directly concerned with the charges.

The opening statements are scheduled on Wednesday,. Perry also added that the questionnaires filled out by prospective jurors indicate that many of them are aware of something or the other about the life and death of the model.

The Judge said, “The responses to the question, ‘what have you known about the case’ were very disappointing. They answered, ‘Only what is shown on TV’.”

Perry said that more information is required before a jury is chosen for the trial of Dr Khristine Eroshevich, Dr Sandeep Kapoor and Howard K Stern.

The defendants are not charged in the overdose death of Smith 2007 in Florida. They have pleaded not guilty to the charges of providing huge amounts of opiates and sedatives illegally to Smith. Perry further said that he is not going to permit any testimony related to the cause of the former Playboy model’s death as it is not part of the charges.

The Judge said that the prosecutor would clearly be interested to try the three defendants on one theory but no such jurisdiction exists in Los Angeles right now.

Last week, a new twist to the case became evident with Deputy District Attorney Renee Rose making a shocking announcement that the former model was a part of the conspiracy which took the defendants to trial following her death. However, there was no clear idea about how it could affect the case.

Renee also added that she would claim Stern’s sister, Bonnie Stern, to be one more uncharged co-conspirator, as she had helped to arrange the delivery of the drugs to Smith.
