Quentin TarantinoDec.10, (THAINDIAN NEWS) There is certainly no limit for maverick film director Quentin Tarantino. Apart from directing cult movies like ‘Kill Bill’, ‘Pulp Fiction’, ‘Reservoir Dogs’ and the recent ‘Inglorious Basterds’, he has also donned the hats of a producer, screen writer as well as script writer. His films are known for aesthetic violence and non linear story lines and they have swept numerous Academy and BAFTA awards apart from critical acclaim. Recently Tarantino added another feather to his cap of achievements by appearing in a Japanese Cell phone commercial. It was for a company known as Softbank.

The ad is whacky in nature and features Tarantino in traditional Japanese dress with a talking dog and a lady. Tarantino looks perfectly comfortable in the attire and his body language is remarkable. In this commercial, Tarantino essays the role of Uncle Tara-chan. There is a blonde woman in the ad who plays the role of Tarantino’s spouse. It seems from the ad that she is far from happy with her husband. She screams to her husband over phone and asks him to get back to home fast.

The YouTube video of the ad is available for download in various web sites. There is a short and a long version of the ad. It is quite natural that Softbank, the Japanese firm behind the commercial has paid a hefty amount to the ace director for his brief appearance. Earlier they roped in Hollywood hunk Bard Pitt to do a commercial. It is quite funny to see Tarantino pretending to be a Samurai in the ad. However, he carries off the funny act with aplomb.
