Quentin Tarantino Appears on American IdolApril 15th, 2009 - 9:54 pm ICT by GD
Some “mentor”-free weeks later American Idol gave its contestants another guest coach as Quentin Tarantino appeared on the show. The director was also promoting his new film “Inglourious Basterds” [sic]. This was his second appearance on the show. He had been a guest judge on season three of American Idol in 2004.
The night’s theme on Idol was songs from movies. The show began with a montage of Tarantino’s movies and with tapes of the seven contestants meeting him on the soundstage earlier this week.
Allison Iraheta sang Aerosmith’s Don’t Want to Close My Eyes, and built up to her usual raspy intensity. Paula and Simon both hailed her performance as authentic and hot and Simon even said she could go to the end if she kept up singing so well. Anoop Desai sang Brian Adams Everything I Do, I Do For You and held his notes quite well. Tarantino asked Anoop to rough it up and kara said she elt connected to him through the song.
Adam Lambert sanf Easy Riders Born To Be Wild and Tarantino told him he waits to see what Lambert would perform each week. Adam joked back, “Me too!” Simon said that the vocals were amazing. Matt Giraud said Brain Adams Have You Ever Loved A Woman and in spite of some off-notes, he did rather well. Danny Gokey sand Lionel Ritchie’s Endless Love and while Paula said it was excellent, Simon said it was disappointingly traditional though well done. Kris Allen saing Falling Slowly amid cheers from the audience. Lil Rounds sang The Rose by Bette Midler and defended her choice even as Simon said it was disappointing that she chose an all too soft number.
Next on American Idol appearances would be Miley Cyrus and Jennifer Hudson.
