Patrick Stewart June 3 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Sir Patrick Stewart, the English actor who is best known to the world as ‘Jean Luc Picard’ from ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’, recently added “knighthood” to his repertoire as he was knighted by the Queen of England herself, at Buckingham Palace.

A recent article posted by news.bbc.co.uk told of the knighting ceremony in which Stewart stated that he owed “literally everything” to his English teacher who pushed him to become an actor. “Without this man none of it would have happened,” Sir Stewart told the onlookers.

Stewart shared that he felt astonished to be added to the same ranks as his childhood heroes, such as Sir Laurance Olivier, Sir Alec Guinness, and Sir John Gielgus, among others, by becoming a theatrical knight at Buckingham Palace.

England’s queen is a fan of the 69 year old actor, who has had a 50 year career so far in film, theatre, and television. Along with the sixteen years which he spent working with the Royal Shakespeare Company, he was also in 178 episodes of ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ and starred in three ‘X Men’ movies.

As he accepted his knighthood, Sir Patrick stated, “The knights of the theatre represented to me not only the pinnacle of the profession but the esteem in which the profession was held. And now to find myself, to my astonishment, in that company is the grandest thing that has professionally happened to me.”
