March 13, 2010 (Sampurn Wire):The legendary Pyarelaljji, who started his career first as an arranger, then a conductor and went on to become one of the most noted composers of our time, feels that in this day and age, only a musician who can adapt and accept all different styles of music can become a great musician. Even though he himself has always composed within the arena of Indian music, Pyarelalji concedes that he is a great lover of western music and musicians, and especially of classical symphonies.
“I have been a great fan of symphonies of Mozart and Tchaikovsky right from my early days. Some of these works are so well written and composed… the marvelous music leaves me spellbound each and every time I hear them. Such music is so divine, it compels one to forget everything around them, and simply get lost within the notes.”
He quips, “Don’t go by my age; I’m not restricted to classical and old school music. I enjoy contemporary music as well. I can jig to the beats of youngsters these days!”
Talking about the great loss to the music fraternity, he adds, “The sad demise of Michael Jackson indeed left the music world short of one of its most precious gems. He [Jackson] had a great range of natural voice along and produced some of the most mesmerizing beats.”
