London, July 28 (ANI): Brit prisoners are claiming thousands of pounds compensation for being locked up beyond their parole dates - because jail chiefs forget to release them on time.

Lags are routinely kept behind the bars ahead of their period in prison as confused officers struggle with red tape over releasing them.

The prisoners receive 111 pounds unlawful detention compensation for each day they remain in the cells.

With all that confusion, taxpayers have ended up paying 250,000 pounds to ex convict in three years.

One prisoner in Cambridgeshire bagged 3,500 pounds when he was kept inside for an extra ten weeks.

They see it as a nice little earner, The Sun quoted a Prison Service source, as saying. (ANI)
