Panaji, Oct 31 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will finish investigation of charges against former chief minister and Bharatiya Janata Party leader Manohar Parrikar for financial irregularities, while developing infrastructure for a film festival in 2004, within six months, a senior CBI official said Saturday.
“We will finish the investigation in six months. The case is pertaining to the mismanagement of finances for IFFI (International Film Festival of India) 2004,” CBI Superintendent of Police S.S. Gavai told reporters.
“The case was voluminous with multi-pronged charges which needed thorough probing,” Gavai said, justifying the time spent for investigating the case filed in 2006.
The complaint was filed against Parrikar, now leader of opposition in state assembly, by Congress legislator Mauvin Godinho, after the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) in its 2005 report pointed to various financial irregularities in the process of creating infrastructure for the inaugural IFFI to the tune of several crores.
Parrikar was then leading a coalition government in the state and heading the Goa state infrastructure development corporation (GSIDC), the nodal agency for carrying out works for the film festival.
