‘Pressures of modern theatre force directors to miscast opera singers’
June 29th, 2010 - 4:32 pm ICT by ANILondon, June 29 (ANI): Placido Domingo says the pressures of the modern theatre force directors to cast many opera singers as characters for which they have little natural ability.
“There are many, many, many more theatres around the world, so the needs, the variety of repertoire is tremendous,” The Telegraph quoted him, as saying.
Domingo added: “The directors of the theatres, they don’t care. They need an artist, and if one of the characters gets sick they just get another.
“Probably the voice is not for the piece but they have to do it,” he told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. (ANI)
