President Obama Criticized By Pierce Brosnan

June 7, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): Actor, Pierce Brosnan has criticized President Barack Obama for failing to keep his promise to protect whales. Obama had promised about protecting sea life during his presidential candidature.
Brosnan said that there have been recent reports of Obama’s administration supporting an international proposal, which allows countries like Japan, Iceland and Norway to kill whales. He is now asking the government to take a stronger stand against whale hunting in international waters.
Brosnan added that there is no justification of killing the largest mammal. He urged the government officials to take a zero tolerance policy against killing of these animals.
Brosnan, a staunch environmentalist, and his wife Keely Shaye Smith worked with the Natural Resources Defense Council and International Fund for Animal Welfare to stop a proposed salt factory from being built at Laguna San Ignacio. The salt factory posed danger to the marine life there and it was later denied permission by the State Lands Commission.
The actor who played James Bond in four films of the Bond series has been an Ambassador for UNICEF, Ireland since 2001. He, along with actor Liam Neeson recorded a special announcement to mark the launch of UNICEF’s Unite against AIDS Campaign.
