‘Precious’ captures first award at Golden Globes (Lead)
January 18th, 2010 - 9:37 am ICT by IANSLos Angeles, Jan 18 (DPA) Hollywood’s award season has kicked into high gear as the movie world’s royalty braved a wet Los Angeles to strut the red carpet prior to the Golden Globe awards.
The first award of Sunday night went to the movie “Precious: Based on the Novel Push by Sapphire”, which saw actress Monique win the prize for best supporting actress.
Toni Collette was named best actress in a TV comedy for her role in the “US of Tara”. Michael C. Hall for “Dexter” was named as best actor in a TV drama while Juliana won the corresponding award for her role in “The Good Wife”.
George Clooney led the umbrella-covered red carpet procession into the 67th Golden Globes, with his movie “Up in the Air” leading the nomination list with six nominations.
But with sci-fi epic “Avatar” still going strong at the international box office with over $1.3 billion, many are betting that the James Cameron movie will dominate the Golden Globes, and the Oscar nominations due to be announced early next month.
“Avatar” is nominated for best picture as well as best director, best original score and best original song. Other movies up for best drama include “Up in the Air”, “The Hurt Locker”, “Inglourious Basterds” and “Precious”.
The nominees for best comedy or musical are “500 Days of Summer”, “The Hangover”, “Its Complicated”, “Julie & Julia” and “Nine”.
