‘Precious’ Author Sapphire Sells Sequel Novel To Penguin

Nov 13, (THAINDIAN NEWS) It has been reported by the reputed media sources that the author of us that was adapted into the award wining and critically acclaimed film ‘Precious’ has submitted the sequel to the first novel to the publisher. The second novel has reached Penguin Press according to the updates. Precious swept a number of coveted awards last year. Sapphire is the name of the author who wrote the novel. The second novel is named The Kid. The second novel deals with the son of the protagonist of the first novel. The author is also a poet and has three poetry collections to her credit. The first novel was published in 1996. The real name of Sapphire is Ramona Lofton.
The 2009 film ‘Precious’ was directed by Lee Daniels. The film also marked the screen debut of Gabourey Sidibe. The director had some hardship in finding a distributor. It got standing ovation at both Cannes Film festival and Sundance film festival last year. Later it was released by Lion Gate Entertainment in a partial capacity. The film more or less stays true to the book it has been adapted from.
The success and critical acclaim earned by the film made the author famous and it is expected that the sequel may find some taker for film adaptation. The director however has not said anything on the line. Penguin has not said when the sequel to the first book will hit the bookstores yet. There is no doubt that the fans of the author will flock the stores as and when it happens.
