Portia de Rossi takes on partner Ellen DeGeneres’ name
September 27th, 2010 - 8:31 pm ICT by Aishwarya BhattSep 27 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Portia de Rossi has taken on partner Ellen DeGeneres name. A Los Angeles Superior Court judge has granted the US actress to officially take the last name of her wife.
The two started dating in 2004 and got married in 2008, when gay marriages were legal in California. After the wedding the 37-year-old actress last month asked the court for the name change. Now the television actress will be officially known as Portia Lee James DeGeneres.
Today the celebrity couple is again in the news, after their request in the court for the surname change. Earlier their nuptial had made headlines.
The couple declares that with this request they want to embrace one of the most traditional aspects of marriage. The new Mrs. DeGeneres said she is now very happy that court has allowed her to use her wife’s last name, but she will continue to use Portia de Rossi for professional purposes in future.
The news was out when the couple tweeted on the popular social networking and micro blogging site Twitter about the courts decision on Thursday.
Portia DeGeneres is a well know television name and famous for her series - “Ally McBeal,” ‘‘Arrested Development” and “Better off Ted.”
