Port-Au-Prince, Apr 13 (THAINDIAN NEWS) Pop star Shakira visited the earthquake ravaged nation Haiti on Sunday, and she also promised that her charity would build a school there. She flew into Haiti on a private jet, and visited the site of her ‘Barefoot Haiti’ school too. There she also interacted with more than 100 children, who also entertained her by dancing to her songs. She also met actor Sean Penn, who is also using the resources of his own charity to help the earthquake victims.

“We’ve come to make all the preparations to be able to start the building of a Barefoot school here in Haiti. We think we can employ what we’ve learned (in Colombia) here, apply it in this country, which needs it so much at the moment. We need to think about the future of this country and of how Haiti’s children can be useful to their societies tomorrow … Education is one of the fundamental tools with which to develop and rebuild Haiti,” Shakira said to the media. She also revealed that the school in Haiti would be quite similar to the other schools, which have been set up by her Pies Descalzos (Barefoot) Foundation. Her charity also provides education, nutrition and psychological support to thousands of children who have been victims of violence. She also added that the Haiti school would be run in collaboration with some other non-governmental organizations too.
