London, Dec 13 (ANI): Roman Polanski’s lawyers have called upon a California appeals court to reconsider throwing out an over three-decade-old case against the famed filmmaker.

Polanski is currently under house arrest in Switzerland, after he was granted bail in case of having illegal sex with a teenager in the late 1970s.

His lawyers tried again to have the case dismissed by telling the three-judge panel that Polanski’s treatment by the California courts and prosecutors was “a really remarkable, astonishing record of misconduct”.

The attorneys also blamed original trial judge Laurence Rittenband, who died of cancer in 1993, of misconduct and unethical acts.

“I would argue to dismiss the case here and now… It sends chills up your spine what Judge Rittenband was doing,” the Daily Express quoted lawyer Chad Hummel, as saying before the court.

However, the prosecution demanded that Polanski should come to the court himself to seek a dismissal.

“Do we want to send a message not only to this defendant but to other defendants that fleeing is an option?” deputy district attorney Phyllis Asayama said.

The court is expected to give a verdict within three months. (ANI)
