Placido Domingo to be honoured with top Latin Grammy award
September 16th, 2010 - 5:52 pm ICT by ANILondon, Sep 16 (ANI): Opera star Placido Domingo is to be honoured with ‘person of the year’ award at the Latin Grammys.
The Latin Recording Academy has announced that the Spanish tenor was chosen for his professional and philanthropic achievements.
President of the Latin Recording Academy, Gabriel Abaroa, said the organization takes great pride in Domingo.
“He’s an extraordinary musician, philanthropist and, above all, a great human being whose immense talent and generosity has had a profound global impact,” the BBC quoted Gabriel as saying.
Domingo returned to stage earlier this year after suffering from colon cancer and is a noble man who doesn’t refrains from performing at charity concerts.
The musician debuted with The Metropolitan Opera in New York in 1968 and is a founder of Operalia, a contest for opera singing. (ANI)
