London, Aug 23 (IANS) Brad Pitt’s comments about Tom Cruise’s World War II movie “Valkyrie” appear to have been lost in translation, says his publicists.
Pitt, who has teamed up with director Quentin Tarantino in “Inglourious Basterds”, which is also set in World War II, told Stern magazine: “The second World War could still deliver more stories and films, but I believe that Quentin put a cover on that pot. With ‘Basterds’, everything that can be said to this genre has been said. The film destroys every symbol. The work is done, end of story …”

Imdb.com reports that when he was asked about Cruise’s “Valkyrie”, about a plot to kill Nazi leader Adolf Hitler, Pitt reportedly said it was “a ridiculous movie”.

But Pitt’s people insist their client was misquoted.

“Brad Pitt has never seen ‘Valkyrie’ so this is not accurate,” said the spokesman for the star.

While Cruise’s film didn’t get a good opening, according to variety.com “Inglourious Basterds” scored the best opening day ever for a Tarantino film reaping an estimated $14.3 million from 3,165 theatres to easily score Tarantino’s best opening day ever at the domestic box office.
