Pirated Telugu Films Selling In Chennai
June 12th, 2010 - 4:59 pm ICT by Sampurn WireJune 12, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): The recording of pirated VCDs and DVDs are increasing day by day, all over the country. The police and law have failed miserably to cope with the illegal sale of pirated movies.
Recently, in Chennai, the production of such illegal DVDs and VCDs was found to be increased. Some of the recording theatres in the city are selling them directly to the market, Hyderabad police informed.
On Friday, the central zone task force team conducted a raid on a shop cum godown at Koti. They seized 6,490 pirated DVDs and VCDs of the latest movies from there, which included 3610 Telugu, 1590 Hindi and 1290 English movies. A number of porn VCDs were also seized during the raid.
Police is suspecting that the owner, Samir Raju, who was arrested from the spot, has been involved in acquiring and selling the pirated DVDs and VCDs. Raju, hails from West Bengal.
In some well-known recording theatres in Chennai, the DVDs and VCDs of Telugu movies were being copied illegally, DCP Kamalasan Reddy informed the press without specifying any name.
Reddy added, “We could hear crowd noises if they were recorded in the cinema halls but these were being copied at the pre-production stage. The pirated versions made in Chennai were being distributed in Hyderabad. Our team will soon reach Chennai.”
Renowned and recent films like Vedam, Golimar, Simha and Rajneeti were among the seized discs. Reddy informed that they have started a special search operation against these pirated movies.
With the rising price of tickets in multiplexes, the chance of a total removal of pirated movies, however, seem to be very low!
