blake-edwards1Dec 17, (THAINDIAN NEWS) Blake Edwards, a Hollywood master of rude comedies and screwball farces, was probably best known for “Pink Panther” movies. He passed away on Wednesday in Santa Monica, Calif. He was 88 at the time of his demise. His publicist Gene Schwam reported that Blake Edwards’s death at St. John’s Health Center, in Santa Monica was caused due to complications of pneumonia. His wife, actress Julie Andrews, along with other family members were present at his bedside, Mr. Schwam told the media.

Blake Edwards was a blessed comedic director who had popular hits like “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” “10″ and the “Pink Panther” films to his credit. Illness and infirmity deterred him from making movies during his later years. He told the media last year that even though he was away from making films, he remained creative by diverting his energy into making sculpture and paintings. Blake Edwards remained an amateur artist for over 40 years and rarely exhibited his works. In 2009, he brought up his sculptures and paintings in an exhibition by the name of, “The Art of Blake Edwards.” It was held at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood. Critic Pauline Kael once described Blake Edwards’s “love of free-for-all lunacy”. In 2004 he was presented with an honorary award by Motion Picture Academy for his “extraordinary body of work.”

The news of the death of this legendary actor turned director has caused a mass upheaval in the film industry. More and more people are logging on to the internet to get a glimpse of the deceased legend. Blake Edwards is considered to be one of the best directors ever. We pray that his soul rests in peace.
