Piano Played By Beatles Goes For Auction On August 15

August 14, 2010 (Sampurn Wire): A piano played by the English rock bands “The Beatles’ and “Pink Floyd’ at the Abbey Road studios in London is going for sale at the auction to be held on August 15. This auction will take place at the Vintage at Goodwood Festival in West Sussex.
The auction will also have jewellery owned by former First Lady Jackie Kennedy. The piano is expected to garner £100,000 to £150,000 because of its association with the bands. Beatles used the piano in 1966 during their work on “Paperback Writer’, the last new song by the band to be featured on their tour of that year.
The auctioneers Bonhams informed that the piano was purchased by the studios in 1964. It retired in 1980 after being played by many other bands in these years.
The consultant specialist for Beatles memorabilia at Bonhams, Stephen Maycock said that the band recorded most of their numbers in Studio Two. It was the second largest after the Studio One mainly used for orchestral recording.
He added that the smallest one was the Studio Three and it was regularly used by the Beatles. Stephen confirmed that the band has used the piano for recording certain songs.
It will be interesting to see how the piano fetches at the end considering its popularity and high demand.
