Philippine National Police (PNP) Collaborates With Film Industry To Thwart Piracy

Manila, Philippines, Aug 9, (THAINDIAN NEWS) In a major step to put an end to movie piracy in Philippines, Philippine National Police (PNP) and the leaders of the local film industry reached an agreement on Monday. The memorandum of agreement (MOA) was signed between the proponents of the local movie industry and the PNP so that a well-coordinated venture can be undertaken to bring a stop to the menace of movie piracy in the country. A Motion Picture of America official revealed on Monday that the country of Philippines was one of the centers of the movie pirates all across the world.
While speaking during the event, Jesus Verzosa who is the Director General of the Philippine National Police made an appeal to the government authorities to withdraw the work permits of the establishments that allow the selling of the pirated flicks. At the same time, the police chief also went on to say that just conducting raids and confiscations would not be enough to thwart movie piracy in the country as those culprits who permit the trade of pirates products should also be taken to task severely.
Meanwhile, the MOA that was signed on Monday among a number of noted entities included PNP, represented by Director General Jesus Verzosa while Mr. Dominic Du was the representative of the Motion Picture Anti-Film Piracy Council (MPAFPC), Atty. Rolando Duenas was the representative of the National Cinema Association while the Motion Picture Association was represented by Mr. Mike Robinson. One of the major highlights of the agreement is the stern implementation of the Anti-Camcording Law.
